Three Tomatoes!
February 16th 2008 09:58
Asthose of us who attempt to garden in Sydeny's delgihtful weather know to our pain the recent weather is haivng a variety of grrr ... effects on plants. As a result I have exactly
THREE TOMATOES
Yes six months I've had tomatoes planted and so far the tomatoes have died twice and been replanted and had to white fly a fungal infection and heat wilt and other damage trimmed off them. Finally after months of effort I have three tomatoes. Two on the largest oldest vine and one solitary flower promising ... maybe ... more? On another plant downstairs I have one small tomato and a bud. This in February when I already should have had a bumper crop!
I am praying we get just enuff sun until Easter and no frost so I get a late harvest and maybe can trim back the vines move them indoors since some of them are in smaller pots and not have to replant next spring! Given the strange weather we've been given I may yet spend Easter turning surplus tomatoes into sauce?
Months of watering and feeding and all I have is three jade green slowly ripening tomatoes!
either the seed stock was really bad last year or ...
speaking of jade green growth I do however have a lovely pot of fresh basil but I dont like making pesto!
Life's little ironies!
