SEXY WISDOM THREE
While Hinduism and Buddhism, particularly the Tantric varieties thereof have their Shakti and Devi the Jains also have a parallel group of goddesses the Vidyadevis.
There are sixteen of these including the first and foremost of them Sarasvati who has a prominent place in Hinduism Jainism and Buddhism and has migrated as far as Japan with a name change to Benten.
This is from a Jain temple. Images of the vidyadevis also appear in manuscripts as well as temple sculpture but apart form this one I was unable to find one I thought was really suitable for a blog format for various reasons mostly to do with image quality.
A couple of sites and books I came across suggested the vidyadevis are also known as vidyadharis.
Here's a list of names for you:
Acchupta C(h)akreshvari Gandhari Kali(ka) Kulisankusa Mahakali VAirotya Vajrashrinkhala Manavi Manasi Mahamansika Rohini Prajnapti Naradatta.
About half of these are also Hindu goddesses and several of them have alternate names.
I hope the list is of some minor help to iconography researchers?
