Sexism in Sport

Sexism

The Ladies Singles Final at the Australian Open raises some interesting issues. The world number 81 out gunned the soon to be world number 1 6-1 6-2 in a lopsided final. Most male fans wanted to see the glamourous, slim, tall, blonde highly ranked Sharapova win, while female fans were more on the side of the returning from injury, short, stocky and unfit Williams who ended up winning. Female fans I believe felt some sort of affinity with Williams who is more of a realistic body type.

Men are shallow creatures who follow visual stimuli! It must be said that Sharapova is easier on the eye! Women are more for what is on the inside and cash, security and fast cars.

I agree with the fact that there is sexism rampant in sport and elseewhere. I think that perhaps you contribute to it by making sweeping generalizations as the ones in this post.

I am just going by what I have heard from my friends and the media from the Australian Open. Sometimes when you can't afford to undertake research or be bothered analysing research which is often prone to bias, you have to generalise in attempt to get your point across!
