How to Mix Saline Solution

A Simple Tip

I've been having to use this to clean a burn before changing a dressing for a relative.

Simple Saline Solution.

One Teaspoon of Salt. It can be ordinary household salt.

500 mls of boiled water. Well and truly Boiled and Bubbling not simmering.

You can use recently boiled water that's cooled if its been in a covered container.

It doesnt have to be perfectly sterile just reasonably so.

Place the teaspoon of salt into the water and stir well.

When its cool enuff decant ( that means pour into) a spray bottle.

Just an ordinary empty plastic spray squirt bottle.

You can then squirt the saline onto the wound and hence lessen the risk of cross infection and the amount of contact with it.

Wipe and dab dry the wound if necessary (ie cos you're removing disharge with something like gauze?

Apply dressing as normal.

P.S. Dont forget to wash and dry your own hands before during and after doing this!
