Fans
well if you live or will be in sydney from now to July 20
The Ray Hughes Gallery is having a show of calligraphy scrolls and ceramics by RENGETSU!
Rengetsu was the daughter of a minor aristocrat and probably a Kyoto courtesan who was adopted into the family of a Buddhist priest in a sect which allowed marriages and received a classical education. After losing her husband and children she took vows as an buddhist nun and seeking a way to support both herself and raise money for charity took up ceramics in addition to her calligraphy skills. She was also a noted poet of waka.
The first image showed teacup sbut she also created other cermaic objects. The second image shows a type of vessel wall designed to be wall mounted and have flower arrangements placed in it.
The Ray Hughes Gallery is at 270 Devonshire Stree Surry Hills Sydney Australia.
Even if you dont like Japanese Cermaics of this sort please tell other people about it?
