Where are the Renaissance Fans?

Where are the Renaissance Fans?
and why are so many Gamers NOT SF readers?
Once upon a time one could safely presume Gamers back in the days before Nintendo X-Box and Wii that people who were gamers were also often into SCA or reading SF and F. Yes READING actual Science Fiction and Fantasy novels. On paper!
The term Renaissance Fan was used to describe Fans of SF and F who read deeply and widely and had other interests and a genuine knowledge of science and history sometimes surpassing that of the authors they admired.
Such SF fans seem to be rarer and rarer in fact an endangered species!
Why is this on my mind!
I had a vision terrible this morning ... no it was reality!
I'm in Galaxy having just finished checking out the new books since I wasnt working and though I didnt buy anything well I do my bit to support the genre telling other people about Galaxy and letting Library staff know certian books are out in Australia.
So two twenty something guys wander in and ask.
Er do you have any World of Warcraft stuff?
Actually Galaxy does have some GAME tie in fiction but these two gamer boys realising they're in an BOOKSHOP just wander out without even looking at the books!
They're never heard of Galaxy and wander into one of Australia's oldest and best SF&F bookshops and wander straight out again!
I happen to exit after them. Did they go into Abbey's next door or any other bookshops? Nope they just wander off down the street.
This month Galaxy has on its NEW BOOK SHELF new books from Hamilton, Asher, Bujold, and others!
Seriously what is wrong with Gamers?
READING IS AN ADVENTURE TOO!
Why are they no longer reading SF?
