Ecstasy is
SOOO NOT Eco-friendly!
SOOO NOT Eco-friendly!
Yes Ecstasy the so called party drug MDMA.
In the Cardamom mountians of Southern Cambodia grows a tree which is the source of safrole oil also known as sassafras oil. There are two sanctuaries in this area and sadly far more illegal factories. The tree poachers working here cut down a rare evergreen tree called Cinnamomum parthenoxylon or saffron laurel. The Cambodians call it Mreah Prew Phnom. The rest of the tree cut down is wasted since only the roots are boiled to get the oil and more trees are cut down for firewood for that process so each 40 gallon or 150 litre barrel destroys 10 trees as well as the area around the distillery.
Next time some one offers you a party drug tell them their recreational "you'll be fine if you drink lots of water" drug isnt only illegal and dangerous to you and them but also destroys pristine environment in Cambodian jungles.
Party Drug? No Poison!
Please note I have summarized and rewritten in my personal blog commentary material and information from an article appearing in Nov 2010 Geographical a British magazine. Read the original if possible!
