Low Rents Are GOOD For Business!
April 19th 2008 15:17
Jon has stated there's a need for business blogs so I thought I'ld try my hand at a semi business blog thats NOT about my alleged art business( pause for bittersweet sobs).
Business spokesperson complain about wages and say they want bring in backpackers and guestworkers and claim Aussies are UNwilling to work. Hello! Have you looked at the cost of rent? Guestworkers and backpackers may be willing to sleep ten to a house or room but some of us have families or need more space than that?
Business claims there will be more housing if they can buy up bushland or turn surplus office space into apartments. But who will be able to afford those houses and apartments?
I dont earn 50,000 a year! Who does who blogs here? Maybe not even Jon or Charles? As sysadmin they're probably putting in very long days and working weekends or evenings given servers and users can "malfunction" and do outside of nine to five hours!
I've seen several business in the local Westfield Mall and the shopping area nearby go out of business because they can't afford the rents! Its not just people who seek housing who are effected?
Builders and developers want to build housing for the upper middle classes and shopping centres but they dont want to contribute to the cost of libraries schools sports areas and parks and commuter space or bus shelters or bike lanes or community gardens.
Well LOW rents are Good for Business!
The less people have to spend on housing or rents and commuting to work the more they have to spend or save towards homes and luxuries and necessities!
BUSINESS stop whining about wages and co-operate to support public or low cost housing and transport. If I have to go to a separate area to visit a small business speciality store because your high rents pushed it out of the mall you lose money!
If the relative I share expenses and housing with "passes away" and I have to pay higher rents or move to public housing or a different low area you lose money I could be spending on food or books or clothes!
I would love to have a short term lease of a month or so to rent an empty shop as a gallery to show my paintings but I cnat spare the money!
This morning I bought boots cos my sneakers and other shoes are getting holes and leaks.
I had to buy cheapies at a Kmarkt sale! How long they'll last I don't know!
Are there any shoe manufactures still working onshore ?
Most of them have moved off shore cos of rents and wages!
I'ld love to buy the Italian boots form the expensive shops but they're too far away and too expensive. More loss to business!
I'ld love to support small business by shopping at markets and we do have a Thursday market in the Mall that has some good vegie stalls. I dont like plums but one of the stalls has some wonderful plums!
Business want me and other Aussies to spend more! Lower rents help!
They help workers and small to medium businesses have more money to spend buying from big business! It's a simple equation. Why is greed letting developers and big business blind themselves to the benefits?
Rent rant over for now!
Why doesnt BIG Medium and Small BUSINESS Understand
LOW RENTS ARE GOOD FOR BUSINESS!

i totally agree about rent and housing being ridiculously inflated, alot of people literally cant afford to access the workplaces where the jobs are.
i wish there was a system of allocating or subsidising rent, transport, and parking for people that need to work . . . i know thats a crazy dream but it sounded good in my mind!
