LOONY NAMES
Many are the names.of the Moon. In Europe the most names of the Moon derive from ancient words meaning white or shining or measure.
Latin LUNA comes from Luuk na. Shining thing.
The Goddess Selene (Seleenaia) and the moon Selene means the shining one and comes from an old *Svr stem.
Gaelic Gealach comes from GEAL white.
Then there's the many *Men words. Moon. Mae Menulis.
Turkish an Altaci tongue has AY and Finnish which is Uralic KUU.
Modern Mandarin has YUE but Hokkien has Geh or Goeh or Goat.
Hakka Speakers call the moon Ngiet or Nget or Niet.
In Japanes the Moon is GETSU or Tsuku and there is a Moon GOD male Tsukuyomi.
The Wu dialects have Yih and SinoKorean WEL.
Cantonese uses depending on which transcription you use for spelling it: yuht jyt or jyut.
Vietnamese has three names for the moon: Trang Giang or Nguyet.
