What!!! You dont like the Library?

Can anyone explain to me why some teenagers think libraries are not interesting places ???
Or are the kind of delinquent brats who seem to spend most of their holidays hanging out in the mall looking terminally bored and smoking just stupid or something?
Or is it not just the dumb ones?
I would love to see a group of teens in a cafe or the mall and hear one saying to the others wooo look at all the cool books I found in the library or boasting they were the first one to get to reserve the latest bestseller even if its only chick lit?
Seriously I see kids carrying bag of ghastly cheap clothing and rarely kids proudly carrying book bags thru the mall to the cafe?
Me I think a good shopping day is one on which you get to the library and find that long awaited book has been returned and then go to the mall and find the chain discount book store put a book worth reading on special AND ... yes you find clothing bargains too!
Here's ten reasons your teenager has no excuse NOT to visit the library these holidays.
1) Smoking in the mall is not cool and may be illegal. You do not look like a free spirited rebel against adult authority. You just look bored and stupid and people who walk past glaring at you are doing it cos they are thinking ... how stupid the money they waste on ciggies they could be shopping or going to the movies or something ...
or thinking duh they must have no imagination if they can think of something better to do in the holidays?
2) Its winter or summer depending on where you live.
Why are you lingering out in the heat/cold with those losers you think are friends when you could be inside reading in a nice warm library? The movies and DVDs cost money but library books only reservation fees for the real popular ones!
3) Don't whine you have no money. You can borrow DVDs and use the Net at libraries too!
4) So the church sponsored holiday activity is "boooring" Go to the library check out the books and find a new hobby ... like build your own computer or car or whatever or use the library computer to find instructions and cheap material to do something?
5) There's nothing to do? Nothing that you know about? Libraries have community notice boards and the local newspapers if the cat or dog ate yours?
6) The only good teen activities are privately run workshops that cost too much?
Rent a meeting room at the library and organise a teen support group to petition the council or state to sponsor and fund cheaper activities or youth centres.
7) But there are old people / nerds/ homeless / insert name of despised uncool group in the library? So what the same people are in your class at school or in the mall too. It's a public space. Learn to share it with everybody.
8) Reading books is for school. A lot of libraries now stock graphic novels and teen magazines and well its not just books you can access!
9) I'm too busy having fun. Yes well dont forget to make time to check out those books and topics your teacher suggested you read over the holidays and do it now before the smart kids grab the books
10) I'ld rather go shopping. Fine Here are the addresses of all the local second hand book stores and opshops. Have you noticed there is a recession on. Learn to like books! They're cheaper in the long run then drugs!
So go to the library!
