Koson and Basho

Koson and Basho
The Haiku I think inspired this print!

This is an early twentieth century Shin hanga print by KOSON.

koson shin hanga print crow
Koson's Crow on a bough print

Althouh few books and sites mention it I'm fairly sure this print was inspired by a famous haiku by Matsuo Basho.

Let me share it with me so you know why!

Kare eda ni

Karasu no tomari keri

Aki no kure

literally

wither branch at on
corvid / crow or raven perch / stay on
autumn of end/ nightfall

Some more notes if you want to check these words out and refine the translation for your self.

kare see the verb kareru eda branch bough karasu is NOT after radical 192.
Its under radical 85 and its wu in chinese tomari is from the verb tomaru which has three different menaings with three different characters ignor ekeri its filler word and aki is autumn and yes its kure not kuro so check kureru !

Anyway do enjoy the picture and the poem!
