Is Clive Cussler's Dirk Pitt a Dachshund?

May 11th 2007 12:06
This article was typed with my tongue firmly planted in my cheek !

First a confession I was owned for 17 years by a dachshund of exceptional style grace and longevity! So I'm one of thos epeople who might describe dachsies as charming little megalomaniacs!

Second another confession !!

Occassionally I read Clive Cussler techno-thrillers when they hit the library shelves.

As literature goes they're strictly writing to a formula but it is a well researched formula tho the characters do tend to be stereotypical in several ways. This is liking confessing to eating pop corn or an infrequent cinnamon coated donut.. perhaps a sin given the state of my blood sugar. Perhaps one of my reasons for being a heavy reader is that I know books are a reliable pleasure with minimal toxic side effects whereas eating and other pleasures depend on the state of my blood pressure blood sugar and right hip's sciaitic nerve.

I function well most of the time but sometimes balance fails ...

So while reading Clive Cussler books is kinda like junk food for the brian an infrequnet lapse does minimal harm and may even amuse.

As a gag testing to see if his editor and proof reader would notice Clive started writing himself into his books as a minor character who shows up occassionally to aid characters.

Since this amused the readers he has taken the little few books to extending the joke by giving dachshunds appear who are apparently modelled on his own black and tan dachshund?

The last time I read a Clive Cussler novel it suddenly hit me!

DIRK PITT IS A DACHSHUND STUD !!!

This explains his almost super human behaviour!

People with experience with teckels and daggles may prepare to giggle.

Others had best show this to a dachsie "owner".

Why i think Dirk Pitt is a dachshund or possibly shares personality traits with Cussler's pet or a previous pet dachshund?

He has red hair / fur

He is described as magnificent.

Dachshunds can have this quality despite their small size.

He's absolutely fearless as the best dachshunds are.

He's a natural alpha male who stands up to bullies regardless of odds.

As are most dachshunds of either gender.

He's naturally charming to ladies

Dachshunds know this is the best way to score treats be good to the ladies!

He's althetic yet graceful!

A well bred dachsie is believe me or not and when you've seen a dachsie use a combination of strength grace and natural balance to climb a 60 to 70 angle sloping rock by running up it you're believe they are althetes!

I live in fear or hope of discovering Clive Cussler once had red dachsunds as well as black and tans ... him being a dachshund owner also explains Al and Summer and Dirk jnr Hmmm ???

Okay back to the SF novel .. I'm currently reading David Weber's Off Armageddon Reef !

Back to our sheduled poetry articles on the weekend ... watch out for a discussion of the sensual sneaky Cinquain!
