i ...diots

i ...diots

Amongst the many public menaces a city dweller has to endure is what I call the i ...diot those delightful individuals who turn up their ipod or iphone ot other techtoy for playing "music" full volume in public transport.

Take this shining example I saw and heard on Wednesday afternoon.

I'm returning from Willoughby to Chatswood on a 273 bus.

Young woman with earpods in walks onto bus right behind and indeed almost walking into an older woman not me another who's doing the right thing and running her ticket thru the scanner.

I...diot walks on towards a seat without paying or showing a prepaid ticket.

Driver has to yell at her to get her attention.

I...diot pays for bus ticket and then sits down sadly right across the asile from me and then proceeds to turn up her iphone or ipod or whatever it was to full volume so that anyone within ten foot of her could hear the throbbing hypnotic and boring club or house beat she was zoning out with.

I didnt know it was possible to turn up an techtoy that loud?!

I...diot also nearly got run over by a bus going over a crossing form the bus terminal to the station ignoring the red stop light.

Thankfully she wasnt on the same train home as me!

There are however many other i ...diots out there.

The person next to you on a bus or train whose techtoy is emitting an annoying buzzing noise or audible burst of lyrics cos they have it on full volume so that the buzzing is almost as annoying as the fortunately almost extinct boombox.

One sits there trying to read a book or do the puzzles in the paper wondering why can they not read and why do they have such appalling taste in music.

Some people also do this in the gym. You're on a mat trying to do Pilates and count your repetitions and some one comes and lies down nearby with a buzzing device distracting your attempts to relax.

In case you're wondering the mats in my gym tend to be clustered in two areas and I use the gym for health reasons not vanity.

There are many ways to tune out from reality but please people if you use an iphone or iphone or other techtoy as a music player / radio do not turn it up full volume. Apart from the damage to your ears your toy is annoying other people who dont hear music just an irritating buzz or drone.

i .... diots grrr

If I ever hear someone's gotten fed up and has finally gone berserk on a bus and beaten the offending techtoy abuser with a rolled up paper or bashed them with a book I know who my sympathies will go to?
