IBYCUS - A POEM

About this poem
I'm not sure if I feel the same way now about Ibycus as I did then but I hope this poem gives you some idea of the peculiar attractions and pleasures of discovering ancient classical writers. Too many of them surive only as fragments with a line or a stanza here and there. But that may be a mixed blessing. Hopefully we see the best of their surviving verse and not the worst?
Ibycus was one of the early Greek Lyric poets.
I probably should not have spread a whole sentence over 12 lines however despite the poetic syntax there are a few images and moments worth sharing with my few fans whoever you are?
Bye for now!

Ancient blossoms open again,
reading, hearing, perceiving,
in your words, life's pleasures yet pain,
willingly my heart's recieving
the echoes of yours through the years,
long the songs enduring,
though spun from sorrow's frail tears,
soft hopes the heart's flowering,
and now my spirit moved by a ghost
scents this perfume of uttermost
rarity - dust stirred by flame
fuelled by a haunting name.
