Nina Garcia's Hundred List - 2

Mad money. Yes you would have to have a lot of it to buy all the items on her list and be mad to waste money on some of them!

Man's white shirt: Ifits a good highquality cotton. Certainly you should have one of two good white shirts in a plain if not a masculine cut, cotton and silk, and dark as well as white!

Mary Janes? Can some one translate this bit of fashionista slang?

; Minnetonka moccassins. I dont live in the USa. Aussie readers might want to consider Rivers?

Missoni knit dress. A knit dress or a very long sweater yu can use as a minidress is useful for winter but be careful and honest. If you're full figured or plump please get a loose one with a Vneck?

Monogrammed Stationery? Buy some good pens learn calligraphy and develop a good signature or design your own logo with Gimp or Inkscape!

Motorcycle jacket? Yes a leather jacket is great in winter. It does block the chills but it doesnt have to be biker style!

Nail polish: Well if you have hours andhours to waste doing your nails ...

Old concert Tshirt Duh yes date yourself and let everyone know what your good or bad taste in music is!

One piece swimsuit: Just make sure the cut suits your torso and you can actually swim in it!

Pea coat They do look better than cheap anoraks?

Pearl necklace Wow Nina did you inherit serious money? If you do afford genuine pearls yes but a single strand long is probably best?

Pencil skirt: For sadomasochists who prefer hobbling to walking.

 Perfume: Flaming obvious!

Pique polo shirt. If you do not play polo you do not need a polo style sports shirt.

 Piece of Pucci? ???

Plain white tee. Several please! Buy good cotton that lasts!

Push up bra OH please push up bras say you are insecure about your breasts!

Pyjamas Personally I recommend Peter Alexander.

Quality Champagne ... and good green tea and real dark chocolate!

Red lipstick. There are many shades of red. Get one that matches your skin and age.
Neither too orange or pink and be careful with your lipliner!

Robe. The prices sadly have gone up but if you can get one I recommend a Japanese kimono or a cotton yugata.

Safari jacket Duh are you going on safari?

Sandals well its obvious since good sandals do look better than thongs!

Sarong. Try to get a good Balinese or Indonesian cotton ikat one. They will last for years and can double as a throw or shawl or scarf or wrap!

 Signet ring. Too pretentious!

Silk scarf But oh course and as many as possible!

Slippers. Protect your feet from the cold!

 Spanx underwear ???

Statement necklace. If its a good design and suits you and your clothes it is a statement about your taste. If. Unofortunately some people think statment means bling ... in the worse possible expression of bling.

Stilettos. Yes a pair of hidden stiltettos could be useful to defending yourself against rapists muggers and a certain kind of taxi driver. Oh she means what I call BDSM heels?

Striped sailor sweater. I do have a dark blue and white striped Regatta cotton knit sweater / top!

Suit. Only if you can afford a well cut one that matches your body shape.

 Sun hat. Flaming obvious

Trench ? Presumably coat? Is it waterproof? Yes.

Turquoise jewellery. I'm Australian. I say buy OPAL!

Tuxedo Jakcet. Ugh only for the very slim and tall!

Uggs if they're Aussie made and not a chinese ripoff!

 Umbrella Flaming obvious!

Underwear. Only in the dpeths of summer can one justify going without both a bra and undies but if you do so please dont wear transparent clothing!

Valid passort. Useful for ID checks if you dont have a drivers license!

 Vans Vans what dear???

Vintage. Yes it is worthwhile hunting for vintage retro jewellery and clothing!

Watch? Why would you not have a watch?

 Wayfarers ? What ?

Wellingtons. Waterproof your boots whatever you buy! They will last longer.

Wideleg trousers. As soon as I can find some I can afford that are not cut for people with tiny waists!

Wrap dresses: Oh dear. Another you need the right body shape garment?

Yoga gear. Does help at the gym or for walking? Avoid three quarter length unless you have great legs!

Ziplock bags. We need to be told this?

Part three will be further comment.

I will read the whole book if a reviewer sends me a copy or the library gets it as I would like to see from the list as quoted what explanations she gives for her choices>

I seriously cannot believe someone who doesn't even know what wayfarers are (Audrey Hepburn's sunglasses in Breakfast at Tiffanys) could legitimately spend time writing a review on this list. If you are uninformed why share your opinions?? At list Nina Garcia has some knowledge of what fashion is. And to think you haven't even read the entire book but you are making judgements...
