About that Garcia Blog
you know the one I posted months and months ago?
or was it years?
I dont know whether to be amused or annoyed.
Now I clearly stated I was only commenting on a list I had seen in a newspaper and that my major concerns were the elitist nature of the items suggested and that I did not think all of the items were affordable or worth saving up for.
Okay so I apologize for NOT reading the book but this allegedly important book has oddly not been purchased by ANY of the public or Tafe libraries I have access to?
As for my spelling typos ... the ones I missed I have a floating blind spot in my visual filed oops field and an unfortunate tendency to reverse medial syllables but fortunately I finally figured out how to apply spell check to the blog.
However this still concerns me?
Several bloggers seemed to think I should not have any opinions about fashion or the views of Vogue Editors because a) I am not a fashion expert whatever that is and b) because Vogue editors are apparently "Sacred cows" beyond and above any possibility or error or critique?
So I appeal to and ask this of Aussie fashion bloggers.
Why do we place so much reliance on opinions from overseas?
Do you really believe Vogue editors NEVER make mistakes?
Shouldnt we be reading or creating style guides written by Australians for Australians?
Now I'm off to write about IKAT

Because most of the time, the overseas fashion elite will be even more passionate about fashion than the Australian fashion elite, simply because they had to get past more people in order to get there. Our population is (off the top of my head) about 21 million... whereas there would be that many people living in LA alone. Therefore the US, British and European fashion elite really, truly live for absolutely nothing but fashion.... while we Aussies have family stuff to attend to, sports to play, outdoor activities, and more serious pursuits in our lives as well.
Do you really believe Vogue editors NEVER make mistakes?
God, no! Anna Wintour is pro-fur. Enough said!
Shouldnt we be reading or creating style guides written by Australians for Australians?
Yes. Absolutely. However, it's important that we get the very best... and to do that we may need inspiration from overseas. Fashion has very deep roots in Italy and France in particular... Australia was colonised just over 200 years ago. We're a very young nation and even though fashion is transient by its very nature, it is also steeped in history.
btw Julie, if you ever find an Australian style guide in book form, that is really worth reading, let me know! I personally think there's a huge niche there of readers that aren't having our Aussie fashion needs satisfied, and I'd love to find a really fabulous style guide that's not directly related to one of the major fashion magazines.
Good post!

You spelled yukata wrong, and advised waterproofing rubber boots.
I'm not sure about the rest of your blog, but if you don't know about something, you probably should look it up, easy as doing a picture search.
I'm not from Australia, and I'm not asking that you be a fashion expert, people just expect that if you are doing a review of a list, you at least have a vague idea of what the points mean.
Sure, Vogue editors make mistakes. So does every other trade executive. They still all know what they are talking about. Therefore, in a comparison, you, who does not know what you are talking about, are significantly less trusted for advise.
I'm from Hawaii. Yes, we have Hawaiian fashion. Yes, it's an island fashion lifestyle. Yes, you have Australian fashion. We're kinda the same here. BUT, we still have other influences on our style. And if you want to look good or trendy or whatever, you will still pay attention to those outside styles, which, sorry hun, don't come from Australia. (Or Hawaii.) Brazil, France and Japan, yes.
Also, as to the library bit, It's a book which advises people on high(er) fashion. Not exactly library material.
Not saying you have bad fashion. You can certainly not know what a bikini is and still look awesome.
I am saying however, that a brief googling of a topic and an open mind can make you look like less of a dumbass. Sure, not everyone can afford diamond studs. Buy fakes. And sure, not everyone will be able to stomach animal skin. Substitute.
I'm sure anyone can realize that ALL fashion advice and lists are meant to be suggestions, meant to be supplemented, and meant to be taken with a grain of salt.
