Four Words for Love

April 15th 2007 10:52
There are four Greek words for Love

Well there's probably more but these are the four main words used in Classical and New Testament / Koine Greek.

If you've read C.S. Lewis the The Four Loves you already know what they are.

AGAPE. Which includes charity and compassion.

PHILIA. Friendship of all degrees.

EROS. Passionate love spiritual and physical.

STORGE. Affection and sentimental attachments.

All these words are Latin parallels.

Chinese has the word AI.

Sanskrit has karuna and other words.

Would anyone care to add to the list? From any language you know?
