The current creative team have quite skilfully sensitively interwoven new characters threats and plots such as the Chief finally going over the edge into total megalomania with references to origin stories with a recent issue focusing on Rita Farr going a long way to explain her breakup with her psycho / psychic husband Steve "Mento" Dayton and how she came back from death.
Another issue looked at Negative Man's series of bodies and lives
Negative Man
and brought strange and disturbing insights into Larry's symbiosis with an alien being and just how inter-tangled their lives are.
There's also humor with Ambush Bug arriving on lovely scenic Oolong Island and the ongoing references to various second and third rate DC "Mad Scientists" ranging from well known to quite obscure setting up a mini state there. It's implied but not clearly stated that the Island's Madame President seems to be done some sort of deal with the UN ... apparently something along the lines of I'll keep most of the loons out of your countries and create an asylum for them offshore.
So some good writing weird humor great art and promising plot lines and oh if you havnt seen the latest issue yet we do find out if Larry really does have a pelican stalker and what he currently looks like under the bandages!
