Dehua

September 9th 2009 10:24
Dehua
also called Blanc de Chine

is the latest in my series of blogs on Chinese whiteware.

Its true porcelain with a clear glaze and is named after its place of manufacture in Southern China.

While these kilns were noted for statues of Buddhist and Taoist saints and sages they did and do produce functional ware as well.

I'll start off with some "antique" Dehua and then finish showing you some modern Dehua.

Enjoy.

I hope these images give you some idea of why one Chinese connoisseur referred to whiteware as being like silver or snow.
