Comics Cosmology
... and Plato?
... and Plato?
What could they possibly have in common? Well the Cosmic Crisis!
The Cosmic Crisis that resets reality via time travel or dimension hoping or higher powers altering reality isn't unique or new to Comics space opera or SF and Fantasy.
The first appearance that reality can be thrown off balance and reset or alter itself casuing great destruction actually appears in PLATO!
Yes Plato! Check out a Platonic dialogue called the Statesman or Politikos!
If your library has the bilingual Loeb version its in the volume that also includes the Philebus and ION.
Basically a character called the Stranger said to be an Eleatic Philosopher cliams that the origin of old stories about the stars changing is due to the cosmos occassionally falling out of balance and time running backwards though the words he uses could be translated as reality running in reverse.
Sounds like one of DC's crisises doesnt it?
Check it out?
The border between speculative fiction and metaphysics is very thin sometimes!
