Chun aint Spring!
Some people apparently and wrongly believe Chun or Jun (the anme of a popular Celadon glaze) means "Spring" cos of the color range which varies to turquoise green thru to light blue with purple streaks.
Celadon by the name is not porcelain. It's used on stoneware clay and on clays that are stone ware porcelain or white stoen ware clays that are semi porcelain or blended.
Chun Kyun in SinoKorean and Kin in SinoJapanese Gwan in Cantonese has several meanings and is the name of a twon where this glaze was used.
It means unit of weight of 30 catties or an object with that value but its also used as a second person pronoun when addressing a superior or was in Imperial China.
This probably says something about the value the Chiense placed on Celadon and thier love of using double meaning jokes about words with similar tonal values.
It is a lovely glaze used since the Sung Dynasty to create beautiful objects and still used today!
Hope you enjoyed the pics.
