BLUE YU 2

BLUE YU 2

blue yu 2
chinese character yu = luxuriant

The top part shows a container fou between two trees radical 75 tree wood

The medial line with the curved ends means cover or head covering.

Below to the left we have either herbal potion or drug or slat over a sppon or ladle and to the bottom right the three lines are either rays of light or streaks or stripes or feather ornaments.

So feathers and herbal potions under cover with trees and a container on top.

In the older seal script form the cover symbol looks like a hill and surrounds the bottom parts on three parts.

Can you see why I speculated somewhat teasingly that the character came to mean both gloomy and depressed as well as luxuriant lush growth cos it was probably created by some poor agoraphobic scribe forced to go on an embassy into what he probably saw as the deep dark dangerous jungles of the south?

Works for me!
