BLING
AND BAD DESIGN
Yesterday another handbag died!
Well the one of the straps rotted thru perhaps because of the wet weather in Sydney but really I'm wondering if there's a curse on me and handbags.
The last 3 handbags I've bought have each barely lasted six months?
I wonder though if the problem is the bag design.
Too much bling. Not enuff thought about structure?
I try to select bags that look sturdy and well stitched, meduim sized, that I can slung over my shoulder and that have useful internal pockets.
My ideal bag has room and pockets for :
my mobile, a wallet with cards, ID credit and debit and library, and coins, a note book or pad, pens and pencils, a folded up umbrella, a small water bottle, a paper back to read on the trin or bus, a small purse with makeup and bandaids and first aid stuff, a USB, my camera, a snack...
oh could I be putting too much into my bag?
Well maybe but the most frequent reason I have to mend a bag, hand, tote, or shoulder, or a basket, is usually the straps.
NOTE to manufacturers and designers
Yes we understand you want us to buy more bags and yes we do want a bit of bling on our bags but PLEASE THINK about
FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION
We want and need ... well I do
Internal and external pockets we can seal against thieves and weather
Reinforced straps that can take some weight .
Far too often I have had to throw out bags cos I discover well I try to mend the strap there's no length to it ... its torn along the stitiching so I cant reinsert the strap tab and redo the stitching argh!!!
I have to throw an otherwise excellent bag cos of one flaw!
Yes the wet weather probably caused damage but ...houses are not the only thing with structural flaws?
Can anyone recommend a brand 50 - 100 dollars that's water proof with some bling and style and sensible pockets?
and strong reinforced stitiching around the straps?!!!
AAARGH
