Australians Are The Worst Winners in Sport
September 25th 2006 23:35
Some people think that Australians are the worst winners in sport, but I disagree. Being an avid sports follower for twenty years, there is one thing that I have discovered. While Kiwis hate losing to the Aussies, we would much rather lose to the Wallabies at rugby than other sides, well actually just the one, England. It is funny how because they are the founders of many of these sports, they feel they should be the best in the world at them, but they are not.
In 1997 they did a victory lap around Twickenham when they drew 26 all with the All Blacks. We never heard the end of it when they won the 2003 Rugby World Cup, and then there is the Ashes. They finally win the thing and you never hear the end of it.
It is funny how in cricket, everyone expects Australia to win and rugby the All Blacks to win. It is funny that despite their huge population, resources and the fact they have played these sports longer than anyone else, the reason they are such poor winners is because they don't usually win enough as they should and so winning has become a big deal to them.
It is no wonder they are such poor winners, given the high levels of expectancy on their overrated football team. The public needs something to cheer about!
