Some Hints (UNsubtle) for the Aussie Fashion Business

Things the Aussie Fashion Business should think about ...
( Yes I read the front page article in todays SMH)
1) Do not go to the media whining about how you have to compete with discount stores.
Find out why the discount stores work?
Hint . It's not just lower costs. Its also wider choices and the stores NOT all being in the inner city or not near public transport or parking?
2) Learn to stop making clothes for "the beautiful people" and start making clothes that make people beautiful. The "beautiful people" are a minority. Have a general range as well as specialty items. Peter Alexander expanded from pyjamas into other items. His stores are still open. And he caters for all ages! Love the slippers Peter and I'm hoping the next time there's a sale that pyjama style I had my eye on is in in the color I wanted!
3) Sending production off shore cos its cheaper is not always the answer. You still have to compete with the cheap stuff. The answer is quality and range and flexibility.
4) Adults buy clothing too!
Hint: more large sizes! like shudder gasp 10s and 12s and 14s and 16s!
5) Do not use catwalk models who have ribs showing!
6) Exploit your pet! I wonder how many dachshund lovers visit Peter Alexander stores cos they too have known the joy of having a true style icon at home!
7) Talk to scientists and engineers. There's probably some inventor out there who has a brilliant invention that will lower production costs that you need to talk too instead of wasting time trying to get images of people wearing your clothes on blogs and into other media!
And would some of you consider a consortium to buy out Pacific Brands and keep some production in Australia?
Its all abut the clothes!
