400 views yet ...?

January 28th 2011 04:18
There have been 400 plus views of this design on Red Bubble.

and yet NO sales?

anti fashionista
julie vaux humor

I don't know what disturbs me more. The possibility people lack the sense of humor to enjoy this or that no one's brave enuff to wear it?

Honestly no one is asking you to say stand in the middle of DFO ( a shopping centre in Sydney that focuses on fashion) or some other major mall and risk being bashed to death by the shopping bags of irate fashion victims!

Or do something cruel like stand next to someone who looks like they are an obsessive dieter and slowly sensuously lick an ice cream cone thats definitely not low fat gelato or yogurt while wearing this?

400 plus views and not one single buyer or comment.

Gosh I hope its cos you're too busy laughing?

Where's people's sense of irony ?

Oh if you havn't misplaced yours perhapsyou might care to visit my Red Bubble site?

I don't think that it's because people lack the sense of humour or courage to wear this design - they probably just see the message as mean spirited and, to be frank, a bit lightweight. If you're opposed to something to the point where you'd let people know via T-shirt, then you'd expect it to be something that is genuinely harmful to society. Fashion is just too inconsequential for most people to be bothered being openly and aggressively opposed to it.

You need to know that not all fashion-lovers are anorexic idiots. Honest and truly! Fashion is a bit of harmless fun, something that adds interest to one's life; it's just like any other hobby and I believe that this is the attitude of the vast majority of 'fashionistas'. To be blatantly opposed to something so frivolous just seems silly, therefore buyers aren't likely to be drawn to this design en masse.

Just my (most tactful) $0.02. Perhaps other readers have more ideas on why this one isn't selling...

A note on mean spirited and satire

Mean spiritedness is not satire it's people who say close the lift door in your face cos they couldn't be bothered to reach over and hit the open button.
One example of many!

Satire aims to correct vice. Check the dictionary if you don't believe me.

Obvious this satirical message is not aimed at those who are sensible and might smile and walk on but the obsessed who might need to THINK?

Instead of condemning this design why not check out the others and PR one of them on yr blog?

Remember I need sales to raise money to print my scarves .

I'ld much rather not be tempted or inspired to do satire because I see some fashionistas and fashion designers behaving in a mean spirited way ... such as the various Sydney based designers hoping they might buy one or two or more of my fabric designs ... mean spirited as in not answering email showing no interest in mentoring an older woman / newbie designer not even bothering to visit or friend my FB when I friended theirs.

People are mean spirited!

I want to raise the money to do my fabrics so people have shawls wraps sarongs and scarves to complement their existing wardrobes.

I hope and pray the mean spirited response of various design firms means they fear I might become genuine competition if I ever get the money to print my fabrics?

Pity I'ld rather they had see my work as complementary to theirs?

Seriously if I wanted to be mean I could do a satire on the behaviour of a certain designer.

Maybe it was her ast and not her who meanly defriended me on FB cos I asked for feedback on my designs ... the same mean ast who took 6 weeks to answer my email

I spent weeks creating and picking scarves designs that I thought complemented their current range.

As this person is a dachista ie owned by dachsies I have restrained myself.

Meanspiritedness from fashion followers:

Another designer recently offered free tickets to a film premeiere as a gift to his FB followers.

I was horrified to see I was the only one who suggested that people name a flood victim instead of themselves to receive the tickets?

I suppose that's where we differ - I don't consider people to be naturally mean spirited, and in fact, I haven't met a single designer who wasn't a lovely person. I think fashion designers only have so much free time in their days that they'd rather focus on their own work than on someone else's, and mentor only the up-and-coming designers who they see as having genuine potential.

I've seen your designs Julie, and have told you before that they don't appeal to me personally - therefore I won't PR them on Fashion Peach, however I do wish you the best of luck. It's possible that someone else found the design amusing enough to post on their own fashion blog (hence the 400 plus views) so I suppose that's as good a start as any!

Stop wishing me the best of luck and do something practical and generous.

Tell one of those lovely designers you've met you know of an artist interested in converting her surface designs to fabric repeatable units and while you personally do'nt care for that style she is trying to do something different

Or at least encourage people to buy a print ot card or calendar.

I also have photo calendars on RB

AAARGH I am so sick of people who claim they wish me the best of luck but arent willing to do anything!

have you ever thought that it could be that your designs are just plain ugly? people aren't inherently mean and the fact that not one of the 400 people who have looked at your designs has said how awful they are, would suggest to me that people are not wishing to hurt your feelings.
nor am i wishing to do so, but i have encountered your whining in several different locations and it seems to me that you would rather blame others for your lack of success than take a long hard look at the aesthetic merit / marketability of your work.

i am sorry to post this comment anonymously but i don't wish to be subjected to one of your inevitable tirades.

i won't wish you well in your endeavours as this seems to bother you so tremendously, but i do hope you are able to find a source of income that is not contingent upon your creative pursuits.

Goodness me yes of course any request for business advice help with PR support feedback clearly must be a "WHINE" if anyone calling themselves ANONYMOUS says so!

Thank you I know I'm not brilliant at networking but have you actually bothered to view the Red bubble site and view a WIDE variety of my works?

I do prints cards posters calendars.

People wishing me well rather than helping bothers me cos its plain and clearly hypocritical. It's not polite to make such a gesture if its empty?

You think I should find another job? Fine?

Got any openings in your workplace?

I only type 45 wpm but I can bring cakes to morning tea and I have other office skills.

I can't lift stuff cos of the damage to my arm ooops was that whining?

If you think my work lacks aesthetic merit I suggest you take a look at some of the "art" promoted by certain Sydney galleries as contemporary!

Readers who are NOT Anonymous are invited to view my recent post Project Scarf needs you.

Scroll up for a link.

If you choose to comment on the "aesthetic merit" of any design please do it in terms of why it would or would not work on fabric or a dress or scarf.

If you choose on comment on marketability please state what your knowledge of the market is based?

If you're going to claim I "whine" please explain why you think people should behave like they're been taking happy pills?

Logging off to cook!

Wishing you well is just something that polite people do. Is it hypocritical? I don't think so. What IS hypocritical is asking someone to PR your designs on their fashion blog when one of those designs reads "anti-fashionista", then getting huffy when they don't!

At any rate, I'm done trying to help out. Constructive criticism is only useful when the person asking for it is genuinely open to listening to what other people have to say.
