Eight Views of Sydney
In East Asian set there are many sets of 8 images such as the Eight Views of the Xiao and Xiang Rivers or the Eight Views of Lake Omi popular with Jpanese Ukiyo-e artists.
I have spent the last few days contemplating what would be an equivalent set for Sydney?
View One Geese descending onto a sandbar.
ooo no Geese in Sydney! How about Black Swans at Centennial Park? Or on a less serious note seagulls and pigeons descending at lunch time at Hyde Park?
View Two Night Rain on Pines near a Temple
The most famous version is Hiroshige's print of pouring rain upon a famous Pine tree next to a Shinto shrine on the lakeshore at Karasaki.
May I suggest summer evening rain approaching across Sydney Harbor seen thru the fig trees in the Domain on the road out to Mrs Macquarie's chair?
View Three Snow capped Mountains.
Oops again no snow in Sydney? How about trees and towers rising from morning fog in autumn or winter or white clouds over the Blue Mountains?
View Four Miidera Temple and its Evening Bells.
I dont think you could hear the evening bells from the Anglican or Catholic cathedrals or any church in the CBD over the traffic noise unless you were standing very close to them.
May I suggest the subtle sound of bats rising from the trees in Hyde Park or the joyous shrieking of parrots and other birds returning to their nests in the same park as the bats depart for their evening fruit hunt!
There's a "temple" nearby or rather the Hyde Park War Memorial ?
View Five A Fishing Village A Clearing storm.
Let's see A Harbor view maybe from Observatory Hill of a Rainbow in a Clearing sky after much needed summer rain?
View Six The Autumn Moon from a Temple.
Mmm the moon seen in a clear sky from see Taronga Park or any Harbor side park with a view westwards?
View Seven The Bridge over the river. Well that one is easy. We have the Sydney Harbor Bridge!
View Eigth Sails Returning from across the Lake.
The Manly ferry lit up for a night run across the harbor or Sunday sailors returning their yachts home merrily dodging ferries speed boats and the usual hoons on jetskis and in powerboats!?
