6 Million People by 2036!
That was the forecast published recently in the Sydney Mornng Herald.
What are we Sydneysiders going to do about it?
Can the city cope with 2 million more residents?
Frankly I think the answer is no!
We cnat have everyone living on the coast. Whatever's causing global warming it is happening and we need every bit of agricultural land above sea level we can get.
This means no more building coastal resorts or housing on usable farm land.
We need to move more people to the Central Western Slopes and to the Eastern edges of that long range of mountains that runs up the east of our great dry land to places close enuff to the sea and mountains that they get some rain from southerly fronts and storms systems off shore.
No I'm not proposing we dissolve national parks and return them to farming.
This is what I would like to see .
A National Construction Corps including mobile skills training units bringing TAFE trainers out to small country towns so students dont have to pay for rent in the city.
This corps could help farmers on small properties by digging waterholes and small dams and repairing erosion damage. They could install sewage and waste water recycling centres or build underground cisterns. They could build and repair schools and community facilites converting them to solar power and biofuels.
As well as using TAFE students prisoners in the final stages of their sentences or people in rehab for addiction along with volunteers and university students could contribute their skills knowledge and labour in exchange for shorter skills skill training and credit towards degrees and diploma or reduced fees.
We need to revive our small country towns and coastal villages.
Not though by transferring the worst aspects of suburbia to them!
Ah do I hear some one saying I live in a city!
Yes but if my plans for next year work out in a couple of years I will be moving to the country and putting my theory to practice.
More on that soon.

Honestly, I think that Australian government should pay more attention to other cities, such as Canberra, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth or Adelaide, rather than focusing in one major city!

The Purple Challenge
Yes it is scary how fixated people are about having major resources in Sydney.
Okay yes its our finest harbour and hencea natural transport nexus b u u u t ... we have other fine harbours ... Twofold Bay and Port Macquarie and Newcastle and elsewhere.
Hopefully the building boom in Parramatta will move some government departments and major employers out there?
We need to move people out to regional rural centres though.
We also need to change zoning laws so that eco friendly light industry can be in the same buildings as living units and offices though that would require more sound insulation.
Why doesnt some developer think to create sound baffling and save water by making the floors between businesses and offices and living units either the swimming pond or spa or storage tanks for roof runoff? We could filter rain water and use it for ground floor cafes?
Some many things that could be done and are not being done.
I for one save rain water in buckets to water terrace plants! I just wish there was more to collect!
