18 or 21
which should be the
legal age for drinking?
Or anything?
18 or 21? Which should it be? Frankly I don't think raising the age will stop under age drinking however I do have a suggestion. Something like probationary status for adult rights? So you're 16 plus and you think you're mature enuff to have sex, drink, take drugs legal or illegal and drive?
Maybe you are and maybe you're not since some teenagers mature faster than others?
Here's my idea if you're a teenager and do any of the following you lose your probationary rights to drink drive or have legal sex or use legal or illegal drugs drugs for at least year or longer or until you are 21 or older depending on the degree of damage you made to yourself or some one else or their property.
You get a girl pregnant or if female get pregnant and its because you deliberately missed birth control classes or didnt use birth control and did have access to it, or got your partner or your self so drugged up or drunk they and you couldn't say no or use birth control, you lose your rights .
You get drunk or drugged and destroy property or hurt some one you lose your rights. I include self harm in that category by the way.
You drive and have an accident you lose your rights.
But what if ... yes you could be exempt to the penalties or get a shorter "time out" if you were a victim of crime, forced to partake in certain activities, unwillingly drugged, raped, have parents who were not shining examples of ethics, or WRONGLY taught you your cultural background is an excuse to break laws, are willing to do rehab, re-education, pay child support, or do volunteer work.
Basically adults clean up their messes.
You want adult rights and privileges?
Prove you can use them properly?
