18 year olds who look 12!

18 year olds who look 12!

Is this really necessary?

Yes I'm still not happy about that recent Vogue cover.

(April 2009 Australian edition)

Seriously who does Vogue think their average reader is?

A 12 year attending an expensive private school who has an shopping allowance of thousands of dollars a year?

It certainly seems that way judging from far too many covers and fashion shoots?

A ungentle reminder to stylists photographers model casters and editors of ALL fashion magazines.

Most of us read the glossies to try and work out which trends will filter down into ready to wear we can afford.

Most of us are not 6 foot tall.

Using models who have no resemblance to most potential shoppers does not sell clothing.

Please do not use the "its about the clothing! It's a fun fantasy " excuse.

I actually enjoy a well shot and composed fashion shoot and have no objection to fantasy themes but I want to see the cut drape and design of the fabric as well of the dress.

Seeing borderline anorexic models DISTRACTS us from thinking about the clothing!

Finally anyone who has the body of a 12 year old but is allegedly 18 should be seeing an specialist to find out if they have a hormonal or genetic or eating disorder. Will someone please send that girl and many other models to see one?

If you're wondering ... No I don't want to see obese models I just want fashion to get over "size zero" as a concept and the idea any one who's over size 10 is obese regardless of their actual fat to muscle ratio or height or body shape.

Please consider celebrating human diversity!

There is more than one dress size!

P.S. I understand Vogue is finally using a non Anglo-Celtic model soon.

I suppose it would be too much to hope there will also be articles supporting Aborigine textile crafters? Or Australian textile and fabric designers and crafters and artists?

I'm sorry to report I still have had very little or no feedback or reponse from various Australian businesses I have contacted so far. I remain convinced some of those designs I've shown you in earlier blogs would made lovely scarf prints if nothing else? If you know design organisations studios or manufacturers looking ofr soemthing new please contact me.
